Living room table or small oval writing desk in Luigi Filippo style – Italy, mid-19th century – Solid walnut
Elegant oval table dating from the Luigi Filippo period (circa 1850-1870), made of solid walnut with a quality of craftsmanship typical of the finest Italian cabinetry of the nineteenth century. The piece features a refined and lightweight structure, with a sinuous and proportioned line, ideal as a coffee table, salon table, entrance table, or as a small functional writing desk.
Stylistic and constructive features
The table fully embodies the aesthetic standards of the Louis Philippe period.
Oval piano with a shaped edge and a thin perimeter molding.
Lower fascia richly profiled, with a wavy course and lightly grooved decoration.
Concealed central drawer with a perfectly integrated door in the band and original knob. The inside of the drawer is lined with vintage green cloth, a typical detail of furniture intended for writing or sewing.
Spiral-shaped arm, elegantly carved, connected to the structure with shaped elements that provide stability and lightness.
Lower curved elements that meet at the center in an important turned element, a small decorative capital that serves as an aesthetic and structural balance point.
Original well-preserved patina, highlighting the quality of the walnut and its warm, regular grain.
