Description from the seller
French Art Nouveau inkpot in bronze with a nature motif, signed M. Arvisenet, circa 1895–1910, on an onyx foot.
Weight 1627 grams
Object description
Rare Art Nouveau inkpot in bronze with finely detailed naturalistic relief of chestnut leaves and fruits, resting on an organically shaped foot in polished green onyx. The inkpot features a flowing, asymmetrical composition typical of the French nature-inspired aesthetic around 1900. The bronze lid (with flower disc motif) crowns a central ink reservoir holder; at the front, the depression serves as a pen rest. The signature M. Arvisenet is engraved in the bronze. Despite signs of age and use, the piece retains its original patina and particularly refined sculptural detailing.
Biography of M. Arvisenet
M. Arvisenet was a French Art Nouveau artist active around the late 19th and early 20th centuries. As a sculptor and designer, he focused on small sculptural objects in bronze, including desk accessories, paperweights, inkstands, and decorative items with pronounced naturalistic elements. His oeuvre closely aligns with the French 'École de Nancy' and other workshops that used nature as an organic source of inspiration. Arvisenet worked on a small scale and signed his pieces by hand, making his objects rare today and attractive to collectors of authentic Art Nouveau artworks.
