Mesopotamian clay plaque and mould with the nude goddess Ishtar, a Babylonian terracotta plaque dating to 2000–1700 BC, measuring 11.50 × 5.00 cm and in good condition with minor nicks and surface wear, includes the negative mould, methacrylate support, authenticity certificate and Spanish export licence, acquired in 2017 from a private Madrid collection.

A rare ancient old Babylonian terracotta plaque depicting the nude female goddess Ishtar, standing with her hands clasped across her abdomen. She wears a necklace. Together with its mould in negative. It includes methacrylate support. Cataloging sticker on the back. Moulds like this were made to produce clay plaques, representing a form of art available to a wide audience. Their subject matter varies widely, including religious images, mythological and erotic scenes, and representations of rulers and gods |Babylonian - 2000-1700 B.C
Ishtar was the most important female deity in ancient Mesopotamia. She was seen as a violent and lustful goddess and her realms included both war and sexual love.
Dimensions: 11,50 x 5,00 each.
Condition: Small nicks on top of the plaque. Some earthy adhessions and surface wear ( see pictures ). Fine condition.
Provenance: Ex M. V. Private Collection - Madrid, Spain. Acquired on European Art Market, 1970's.
