The extremely eye-catching pendant lamp 'Wo bist du Edison,' was produced by hand in 1997 by Ingo Maurer.
A holographic emulsion is applied individually to each glass cylinder, using a laser and a complex chemical development process to create a microscopic interference relief in the emulsion layer.
This is how Ingo Maurer transforms each of these design lamps into a brilliant one-of-a-kind piece, which, through interaction (absorption and reflection) with the light source from 'Where Are You, Edison,...?', creates the impression of a virtual light bulb — a stunning effect that is guaranteed to make an impact.
Upon closer inspection, the viewer can even answer the question, 'Where are you, Edison...?' The silhouette of Thomas Alva Edison, the inventor of the carbon filament incandescent lamp, is immortalized in the lamp socket.
