Le Forme del caos, a signed 1st edition Italian hardcover by Ferdinando Scianna, 260 pages, published in 1989 by Art& with a illustrated dust jacket.
Description from the seller
Exceptionally signed copy on the title page by Ferdinando Scianna (rare signed copy). 230 pages and nearly 200 photographs, mostly full-page black-and-white images printed in very high quality. Publisher's binding with illustrated dust jacket.
Ferdinando Scianna was born in 1943 in Bagheria, near Palermo in Sicily. He began photographing his native Sicily at a very young age, and after studying philosophy and art history, he immediately published a book titled 'Religious Festivals in Sicily,' where his photographs were accompanied by text from the renowned writer Leonardo Sciascia. This book was an immediate great success and is recognized as an important photographic work; it is referenced in Photobook by Parr & Badger (volume 3, page 111). In 1967, Ferdinando Scianna moved to Milan and then started working for the weekly magazine L'Europeo as a photographer and journalist. He became the magazine's correspondent in Paris during the 1970s. During his years in Paris, Scianna befriended Henri Cartier-Bresson and in 1982 joined Magnum Photos agency. Chance also turned him into a fashion photographer for Dolce & Gabbana, and the book Marpessa, which resulted from this first experience, is now highly sought after. Throughout these years, Ferdinando Scianna traveled extensively around the world as a journalist and later as an internationally recognized photographer, but his photographic work always remained faithful to Sicily, which he photographed tirelessly. This anthology, published in 1989 when he was only 46, is a perfect illustration of this, featuring his photographs of Sicily and beyond.
Exemplary in excellent condition with slight signs of age on the dust jacket and sun exposure (see photo). A book from my personal collection, kept with the utmost care. Shipped protected with reinforced packaging and guaranteed international tracked postal service. For multiple purchases, combined shipping is possible with reimbursement of any excess postage paid via Paypal.
To better view the photographs, you can click on one of them to display it on a black background, which highlights it even more. This view is equipped with front/back functions, and you can also exit it at any time to return to the standard display.
