Miniature landscapes, a journey into Chinese architecture. 1991, Ar/Ge Kunst. 92 pages, 28 x 29 cm., soft cover with title and ideogram.
2. Notsofareast., 2002, Donzelli publisher, Rome, 92 pages plus two fold-outs, 15.5 x 21.5 cm, hardcover binding and illustrated dust jacket.
Olivo Barbieri has dedicated much of his work to urban space photography, and in 'Miniature Landscapes,' he photographed buildings along a road, gradually transitioning from traditional structures with high-quality edifices to shaky vernacular huts, and finally to large modern buildings. 'Miniature Landscapes' was published in 1991, but with 'Notfareast' published in 2002, it is evident that the urban landscape of China has already changed significantly. Some buildings are still under demolition, but gigantism has become omnipresent. To photograph these scenes, Olivo Barbieri uses his distinctive photographic style with selective focus, transforming these real landscapes into miniature models resembling architectural maquettes.
