Description from the seller

Upper anterior tooth belonging to Isurus oxyrinchus, commonly known as the shortfin mako shark, a species belonging to the family Lamnidae and the order Lamniformes. This tooth measures 51.5 mm in overall length and is preserved in excellent morphological and chromatic condition.
The crown shows a tapered shape and is slightly curved towards the distal portion, with smooth margins free of serrations, typical of the anterior dentition of Isurus. The pointed and symmetrical profile is designed for rapid and clean penetration of highly mobile prey. The enamel surface exhibits a natural gloss, with a uniform light ivory coloration, while the root, well mineralized, retains an evident structural porosity, with light beige shades.
This type of tooth is functionally specialized for grasping and perforating, in line with the feeding behavior of the mako shark, known for its diet mainly consisting of pelagic teleosts (such as tunas, mackerels, and swordfish) and cephalopods. The morphological adaptation of the tooth reflects the needs of a predator capable of speeds exceeding 70 km/h, making it an exemplary model of convergent evolution between form and predatory function.
Suitable for comparative morphological studies, taxonomic collections, or educational mounts, this tooth represents a natural zoological document of high scientific and aesthetic value.

Seller's Story

The Mineral Art Gallery offers minerals, fossils, shells and natural elements. Born in Italy in 2017, today she collaborates with international galleries and collectors, she is a direct importer of large minerals and naturalistic collectible elements; deals with the processing to insert them inside the living space. A section of the gallery was dedicated to the Wunderkammer, "chamber of wonders or cabinet of curiosities" in which Mirabilia elements are presented: naturalia and italiania, a union between "the present is the past". All lots are shipped via DHL Express and Fercam couriers, with insured parcel and tracking.
