Decorative Jugendstil mustard pot made of stoneware, designed by Richard Riemerschmid around 1902 for Merkelbach & Co.
Typical rounded shape with a surrounding dotted and wavy band decoration. The upper part is glazed in deep cobalt blue, while the lower part has a gray-blue glaze with fine craquelure, featuring an original tin handle lid.

Riemerschmid is among the most important artists of the German reform movement; his designs for Merkelbach are among the most sought-after ceramic works of Jugendstil.

Very good age-appropriate condition. Intact glaze with typical craquelure. Metal clasp functional, no cracks or chips. Spoon included (probably added later).
