Kamp Westerbork, located in the northeastern Netherlands, was established in 1939 as a refugee camp for Jews fleeing Nazi persecution. After the German occupation, it was transformed into a transit camp, functioning from 1942 to 1945 as the central hub from which more than 100,000 Jews, Sinti, and Roma were deported to extermination and concentration camps such as Auschwitz, Sobibor, Bergen-Belsen, and Theresienstadt. Life in Westerbork was marked by a deceptive sense of routine: there were schools, workshops, and even cultural performances, yet all inhabitants lived under the constant threat of deportation. Every Tuesday, transport lists were posted, instilling fear and uncertainty throughout the camp.
