Description from the seller
Original 1982 Captain Sensible – 36-Frame Contact Sheet Set – From the Photoshoot for “Women and Captains First” (Most Images Unpublished) Signed by Bill Zygmant
Photographer: Bill Zygmant
Year: 1982
Format: Two original photographic contact sheets – Ilford film
Total frames: 36 images
Condition: Very good vintage condition
DESCRIPTION
A rare pair of original photographic contact sheets featuring Captain Sensible in one of his most iconic early solo photoshoots, created during the production period of the 1982 album “Women and Captains First” (A&M Records).
This session – Captain Sensible nude except for sunglasses, wig, beads and guitar – is instantly recognisable as the same shoot used for the album’s inner artwork and promotional press material. Several frames from this session were supplied to A&M Records in 1982, but the majority of the images here were never published.
These contact sheets come directly from the personal archive of renowned British music photographer Bill Zygmant, known for photographing John Lennon, The Beatles, Yoko Ono, Jimi Hendrix, The Bee Gees, The Move, The Damned and many others.
Zygmant frequently supplied record companies and music magazines with film selections in contact-sheet form, and this set includes his original editor’s crop marks from the time.
KEY FEATURES
• 36 original frames from the same 1982 photoshoot used during the Women and Captains First album campaign.
• Includes hand-drawn crop marks, showing which poses were considered for publication.
• Most of the images have never been released, making this a highly desirable lot for collectors of The Damned, Captain Sensible, punk, post-punk and early 80s British music history.
• Shot on Ilford HP5, consistent with Zygmant’s professional workflow.
• These are original vintage contact sheets, not modern reprints.
PROVENANCE
From the private collection of photographer Bill Zygmant.
The seller lived with Bill Zygmant for a time and these along with other photos came directly from Bill. I’ve added some photos of myself with Bill Zygmant as provenance but they will not be included in the sale.
CONDITION
Very good for age.
Minor handling marks consistent with 40+ years of archival storage.
Images remain crisp and clear.
DIMENSIONS
Each sheet approx.: 25 × 20 cm (standard contact sheet size)
36 images total.
RARITY
Original contact sheets from this session are extremely scarce.
Many frames appear here for the first time and were not used on the LP, singles or press kits.
This is an exceptional opportunity to acquire a unique piece of early 1980s music photography.
SHIPPING
