AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Dan Toura Mask – Ivory Coast / Liberia

A beautiful presence for this ancient Dan Toura mask, with a dense and expressive form. The face is built like a block: a domed forehead, tubular eyes pierced that catch the light, a short and powerful nose, a mouth slightly open giving this character that is both lively and solemn. The dark, deep patina is highlighted by traces of wear and oxidation, and the bearded fibers enhance the visual impact – typical of masks intended to “appear” and mark the gathering.

These masks belong to a repertoire in which one embodies a presence: authority, social control, ritual intervention, sometimes accompanied by dance and staging. A fine specimen, sober, graphic, and very collection-worthy in terms of the quality of the sculpture and the authenticity of the ensemble.
