Description from the seller
Navigation & Commerce Maritime International (1851–1853)
Nice set of 3 original documents on international maritime trade in the mid-19th century: India – United Kingdom – France – Argentina.
1) Lloyd’s Certificate (June 17, 1853), signed by agent John Owen, with a red seal. Information on two ships: Hibernia (1842) and Polynesia (1850), classifications, repairs, and coatings.
2) Bill of Lading Calcutta → London (January 1851) for a batch of Indigo Samples, signed by Captain Blackmore. Ship engraving, handwritten mentions, shipping marks.
French bill of lading Le Havre → Buenos Aires (October 21, 1851), 41 bales of wool. Beautiful vignette of a steamship with mixed rigging, with a large autograph signature of the captain.
A very coherent ensemble illustrating global trade networks: indigo export from the British Indies, transcontinental navigation, wool trade, and ship classifications by Lloyd’s.
Particularly decorative documents with maritime engravings and abundant handwritten annotations.
Good overall condition, some minor margin lacks without affecting the text, solid papers.
