Description from the seller
This splendid natural sculpture is crafted from a specimen of serafinita (a precious variety of clinochiorite), originating from the ancient geological formations surrounding Lake Baikal in eastern Siberia. Polished and mounted on a base to enhance the play of light on its reflective fibers, the specimen appears as a true work of natural art, with feathered silver-colored reflections on an intense forest green matrix.
Seraphinite is a phyllosilicate belonging to the chlorite group, formed in metamorphic environments where high temperatures and moderate pressures have transformed existing rocks, enriching them with iron and magnesium. Its fibrous and radial structure is responsible for the optical effect known as 'chatoyance', or the silky shimmer that resembles angel wings, hence the commercial name inspired by the seraphim of biblical tradition.
The contrast between the green zones and the shiny white bands creates a hypnotic natural pattern, with symmetrical veins that evoke celestial plumage or stylized waves, making this specimen perfect for mineralogical collections, meditative environments, studies, or modern Wunderkammer.
Every seraphinite crystal is a millennia-old fragment of the most remote Earth's crust: a bridge between science and spirituality, between geology and beauty.
