Description from the seller
Echo Hand Knotted Rug Red (170x240)
100% wool
Hand knotted. Hand knotted
Total aprox weight: 4,1 Kg/m2
Total aprox height: 9 mm.
Knots/m2: 150.000
This is the red tone rug from the Echo collection, a design whose pattern aims to convey the graphic representation of a sound, with its greater or lesser intensity depending on its nature. From a strong impact, a continuous tapping, the singing of a bird or a song, its small square and rectangular figures randomly represent different types of sounds through their color intensity, thus manifesting their degree of power, reverberation, or echo.
British designer Samuel Wilkinson has managed to represent the capture or recording of a sound as if it were a digital environment. The copious succession of tones in this rug's composition is crafted using the artisanal hand-knotted technique. A meticulous method of knotting, which is the only way to achieve the level of detail, definition, and heterogeneity that the Echo collection design has.
Echo, a model from our Hand Knotted rug collection.
The hand-knotted technique, as its name suggests, is a manual method of rug making that allows for highly detailed designs due to the fact that each knot is tied individually. It is a very laborious technique and, as a consequence, offers great flexibility in terms of line and pattern. With this peculiarity in mind, at GAN we design rugs to be made with this technique, both with a uniform design and with an apparent randomness in the pattern.
