Description from the seller
Chinese Pekín rug – Ningxia / Baotou style – 100% wool – ca. 1890–1920 – 170 × 93 cm – Perfect
We present a Chinese Pekín rug, made in the Ningxia / Baotou style, handwoven approximately between 1890 and 1920.
More than 100 years old, this historic piece is made of 100% high-quality wool, characteristic of productions from northern China during that period.
The rug is in an exceptional condition, virtually like new, as it was used solely for decorative purposes. Despite being over a century old, it remarkably retains its structure, softness, and original colors.
The design is unique and highly symbolic, with:
decorative vases
flowers and medallions
Auspicious symbols of good fortune
cloud bands
all of this expressed with the classic aesthetic of Ningxia/Baotou carpets, highly valued by connoisseurs of Chinese textile art.
It is a very valuable and highly prized piece among collectors, both for its excellent condition and its artistic composition, as well as its antiquity of over a century.
