Description from the seller

Egyptian Bronze Statuette Depicting Osiris – Late Period (664–332 BC) – Expertised by Marie-Margaux Cohen

DESCRIPTION :

Beautiful Egyptian bronze statuette depicting the god Osiris standing, in a mummiform pose, with arms crossed over the chest. The figure wears the Atef crown, partially preserved, with ancient losses at the top. The face, with still-visible features, shows a calm expression characteristic of late votive productions.

The surface shows a deep brown-black patina, dotted with typical green oxidation areas of ancient bronze. Some abrasions and slight surface irregularities testify to its ancient burial.
The statuette is mounted on a modern presentation base.
Height: approx. 14 cm.

This type of effigy, standardized but of fine quality, belonged to the corpus of votive objects dedicated to Osiris in the major cult centers of Egypt.

Historical interest and rarity

A direct testimony of popular piety during the Late Period, a time marked by a very significant production of votive bronzes dedicated to Osiris.

Effigy of the god of resurrection, associated with funerary practices and the hope of rebirth in the afterlife.

Beautiful piece of medium size (14 cm), more sought after than the small standardized figurines of a few centimeters.

Presence of an authentic, unrestored ancient patina, enhancing the archaeological value of the entire piece.

Condition of Preservation

Complete object in its entirety, presenting:
wear consistent with age
A few minor shortcomings regarding the Atef crown.
a well-stabilized patina
Old traces of green oxidation.

Very good overall condition for a bronze votive statuette from this period.

Provenance

Old European private collection
Then, renowned house of Maître Denis Herbette.
Expertise by Marie-Margaux Cohen, a recognized expert in archaeology and antiquities.

Remarks:

This item will be shipped in accordance with current regulations regarding the trade of antiques. Secure and careful packaging is guaranteed.
