Specimen Megalodon tooth from Indonesia, dating to the Neogene Miocene, Natural condition, measuring 8.85 cm long and 6.64 cm wide.
Description from the seller
→ 8.85 cm long x 6.64 cm wide Megalodon teeth
It a medium size Megalodon teeth with nice prominent bourlette and orange/golden/dark colors which are prominent on the back side of the body and the root which gives the teeth verydistinctive looks. The presence of such orangish color indicate the presence of Iron(Fe) compounds during the prolonged fossilization process of around 13 Million years average. The megalodon lived 23 to 3.6 million years ago, from the Early Miocene to the Early Pliocene epochs. The serrations and body has nice & shape pointed and asymmetrical profile.
Another very interesting feature of this teeth is that side of roots plus root body junction are bit exposed giving a glimpse into the inside of the fossil. Also the root is quite big compared to the overall teeth.
We cant say with full certainty whether some extra re-enforcement material is added to the root to protect it or its the natural state of the root.
Our interpretation is that, it is in natural state and it is not restored!!. We can be wrong in our judgement but we want to convey honest message to the bidders as much as we could.
Nevertheless, it is a unique teeth in its own way.
Please refer to photos for reference.
