Copper engraving by M. Merian, around 1644.
Panoramic view of the city of Dachau, in Bavaria, with numerous buildings, the castle, and fortifications. In the foreground, accompanying figures (staffage) have been added, integrated into the scene.
Sheet size: 39x32 cm
Image size: 30.2x18.5 cm
At the top center of the image, the title appears.
The most important buildings and facilities in the city are marked with letters and explained in the legend below.
Backlight reveals on the watermarked textured paper the watermark of a crowned shield or emblem.
Condition: The sheet shows an editorial fold that has been smoothed and reinforced on the reverse. Small impurities typical of age are present along the margin. Overall, it is in good condition.
