Set of four porcelain pieces by Ignorance is Bliss, designed by Agne Kucerenkaite, including two bowls (11.5 cm and 16.5 cm diameters) and an espresso cup (120 ml), made in the Netherlands in 2024, glazed with industrial metal waste in a Dutch design, food‑safe and in as new condition.
Description from the seller
Set of Ignorance is Bliss Porcelain Bowls and Espresso Cups – Limited Edition
Ignorance Is Bliss is an ongoing project by Agne Kucerenkaite that transforms metal waste from water treatment plants, soil-remediation companies, and other industrial streams into refined, functional objects. The project highlights the environmental impact of metal mining, an extractive, non-renewable process and demonstrates how industrial byproducts can be reintroduced into the material cycle as valuable resources.
The colours of each piece are created exclusively using industrial metal waste, with up to 40% incorporated directly into the glaze. Every piece is handcrafted and fired in a reduction gas kiln, a traditional kiln atmosphere in which oxygen is intentionally limited. Reduction firing is rare in Europe due to strict environmental regulations and the high level of craftsmanship required, but it creates a depth and richness in colour that cannot be achieved in electric kilns. The atmosphere inside the kiln often produces natural variations and subtle irregularities, each firing is entirely unique.
All pieces are food-safe.
Both cups are in regular studio condition. The white cup with dots shows natural speckling within the porcelain body. No cracks, chips, or structural issues.
Both bowls fall under the studio’s “Category B” selection, meaning they contain small aesthetic irregularities but are structurally sound and fully functional. Each bowl has a slight bend on the rim with a microcrack sealed beneath the glaze. This microcrack occurred before firing and became fully vitrified during the reduction firing process. Such irregularities are more common in reduction gas kilns due to atmospheric effects and are considered part of the authentic character of this firing technique.
Dimensions:
Small bowl dia 11.5cm, h 6.5cm
Big bowl dia 16.5cm, h 7.1cm
Espresso Cup dia 6.5cm, h 5.5cm; volume 120ml
