Description from the seller
The Battle of Grunwald, known in German as the First Battle of Tannenberg 'Schlacht bei Tannenberg,' and in Lithuanian as the Battle of Žalgiris 'Žalgirio mūšis,' is considered by many historians to be the greatest battle in medieval European history. It was fought on the fields near Grunwald on July 15, 1410, during the Great War between the Teutonic Knights, supported by Western European knights under the command of Grand Master Ulrich von Jungingen, and the combined forces of Poles and Lithuanians, Ruthenians (Ukrainians), the Principality of Moldavia, the Tatars of Djalal ad-Din, and Czech mercenaries, under the leadership of King Władysław II Jagiełło of Poland and Grand Duke Vytautas Kiejstutaitis of Lithuania (1401-1430).
According to historians, the Teutonic Order fielded an army of about 27,000 soldiers for the battle, while Poland and Lithuania assembled approximately 29,000 soldiers. The Polish-Lithuanian forces defeated the Teutonic Order's army.
A rare large historical medal made of pure silver in mint UNC condition, referencing the great history of Poland, Lithuania, Ukraine, Moldova, and Germany; beautiful and unique, highly recommended.
