Late Roman to early Byzantine glass bottle with a globular body and a long cylindrical neck, made of colourless translucent glass partially covered by a fine silvery iridescent layer and a milky earthy deposit; dimensions 200 × 87 × 87 mm; provenance: private collection of Dr. Wiegand, Bayern, Germany (1960–2005); acquired in 2024 from Germany; excellent condition.
Description from the seller
Large long-necked bottle made of translucent colorless glass, partially covered with a very fine external iridescent layer of silver color, as well as a cloudy, earthy deposit.
A globular body with a flattened and concave base in its center. A long cylindrical neck with a slightly constricted base and a partially rounded, inward-folded lip. The neck is decorated with very fine, threaded rings alternated with thicker circular rings.
Romain tardif, Eastern Mediterranean.
- Dimension: 200 x 87 x 87 mm
Dating: 4th – 6th century A.D., possibly later.
- Provenance: Private collection of Dr. Wiegand, Bavaria, Germany between 1960 and 2005.
- Condition: Excellent condition, intact.
