Description from the seller
Val Saint Lambert Luxval: The Iconic Mameluk Art Deco Vase, circa 1935
This magnificent 25cm tall piece is an iconic example from the celebrated Val Saint Lambert Luxval collection. It is the sought-after "Mameluk" model, designed by René Delvennes around 1935 in olive green.
This vase perfectly encapsulates the streamlined elegance and geometric precision of the high Art Deco era. The glass, in a beautiful, subtle light hue, is presented in overall excellent condition.
The body takes the form of a dramatic, flared trumpet rising from a sturdy, tiered octagonal foot. Vertical, sunburst-like fluting creates mesmerizing light play across the entire surface of the vessel. A key feature is the row of raised, striking eye-shaped medallions encircling the lower half.
As is typical with pressed glass production, minute air bubbles or faint flow lines are naturally present, a testament to its original method. A round, rough surface spot (picture 7) is also visible on the outside under the top rim, a characteristic likely stemming from the moulding process. This small detail in no way detracts from its decorative value.
For the successful buyer, the vase will be safely packaged and shipped fully insured. Pieces of this quality and size are increasingly difficult to source, making this superb example of the Luxval line a wonderful acquisition for any discerning collector.
