Rare Russian silver basket with openwork, parcel gilding and niello, made in 875 silver and dating from ca. 1958, featuring two shaped handles and measures 19 cm long, 12 cm in diameter and 8 cm high, weighing 228 g in good vintage condition.

Rare Russian Silver Basket – Openwork, Parcel Gilt & Niello – 875 Silver – ca. 1958
A beautifully crafted Russian silver basket, made in solid 875 silver, richly decorated with openwork floral motifs, parcel gilding, and elegant niello panels.
This type of basket was traditionally used for serving sugar cubes, sweets, bonbons, dried fruit or small pastries during tea service.
The piece stands out for its sophisticated ornamental work and its two shaped handles, an uncommon and more luxurious form within Soviet-era decorative silver.
Hallmarks:
• Soviet state mark (star with hammer & sickle)
• Silver standard 875
These marks were in use from 1958 onward, placing the piece in the early post-reform Soviet period.
