Description from the seller
Attention: due to customs regulations we can only ship inside the European Union. Please ensure you have a valid EU shipping address before placing a bid.
Rare ancient Roman bronze votive offering, modelled in solid form of a forearm tapering towards the wrist with a bracelet and terminating in a simplified, flattened hand holding an offering patera.
The musculature and contours are rendered in an intentionally schematic manner, typical of anatomical votive offerings rather than naturalistic sculpture.
Length: ± 44 mm
Condition: good and solid condition with smooth olive-green patina and fine detail. Signs of wear consistent with age and use.
Certificate of Authenticity: available upon request (pdf-format).
Votive limbs such as this were dedicated at sanctuaries and healing shrines, offered in thanks for recovery from injury or illness, or as a plea for divine intervention relating to the represented body part.
A tangible and evocative object of Roman religious practice, offering direct insight into personal belief, healing cults and everyday devotion in the ancient world.
