Description from the seller
Attention: due to customs regulations we can only ship inside the European Union. Please ensure you have a valid EU shipping address before placing a bid.
A fine Bronze Age razor moulded from bronze featuring a sleek, thinly hammered flat blade. A loop is displayed at the end and is finished with a protruding nodule. The piece is beautifully preserved, showcasing a rich patina, and the knife is still sharp.
Length: ± 16,5 cm
Condition: good and solid condition, appealing smooth olive-green patina. Some wear and pressure bending, consistent with age and use.
Certificate of Authenticity (PDF) is available upon request for lots with a hammer price of €100 or higher.
Ancient Celtic men were known for their carefully groomed appearance, often wearing long hair and moustaches, but preferring clean-shaven cheeks and chins. Caesar describes how the "Celts" shaved every part of their body other than their head and their top lip
They used razors and tweezers, and sometimes lime water to stiffen and lighten their hair. Beards were rare among the Celts of Gaul and Britain, suggesting that shaving was a mark of pride, discipline, and warrior status.
