Medieval silver ring dating to circa 900–1200 AD, with a square bezel set with iridescent glass, folded silver construction, EU size 56 (US 7½), weight 0.1 kg, acquired in 2025 from the United Kingdom.
Description from the seller
Early medieval silver ring, dated to approximately 900-1200 AD. The ring features a square bezel setting with an iridescent glass insert, whose shimmering surface and partial losses are age-related and typical for early medieval glass.
The setting is made of folded silver, a simple and functional construction commonly found in early medieval everyday and costume jewelry. The ring shank is solid, unadorned, and shows clear forging and usage marks, indicating handcrafted manufacture and long-term use.
The ring's typology and style correspond to early medieval silver rings from European archaeological contexts dating to Late Antiquity and the early Middle Ages.
The piece comes from a larger group of early medieval silver rings from a private British collection, acquired on the Austrian art market before the year 2000. No modern restoration has been carried out. The condition is stable, with age-related wear, surface irregularities, and losses to the glass insert.
An authentic early medieval jewelry piece, suitable for collectors, research purposes, or a museum collection.
