Description from the seller
Magnificent latest work by the great Paolo Roversi, new and signed! In L'Odeur de l'Inde, Pasolini testifies to his wonder and sensitive experience of a different humanity, far from Western perceptions. Thirty years later, Paolo Roversi presents an equally mystical and fabulous India, captured in sepia tones and powdery colors, signature of his aesthetic.
One evening in January 1989, Paolo Roversi stopped at the Malabar Hotel in Cochin, in the Kerala region. He had already made several trips to India. That night, as he began reading 'The Scent of India' by Pier Paolo Pasolini, he realized that he was staying exactly at the same establishment where his Italian compatriot had stayed nearly thirty years earlier. In 1961, Pasolini traveled to India with Alberto Moravia and Elsa Morante. The work he wrote upon his return recounts his impressions, his nocturnal wanderings, but also his encounters. In 'The Scent of India', Pasolini bears witness to his wonder and his sensitive experience of a different humanity, far from Western perceptions.
Thirty years later, Paolo Roversi presents a no less mystical and fabulous India, captured in sepia tones and powdered colors, signature of his aesthetic. The variations in light and the shaping of volumes create a dreamlike universe, suspended. Crumbling marble palaces, small shops, alleys filled with a menagerie of donkeys and sacred cows, sandy valleys bathed in an amber veil, and above all, portraits of women, men, and children where the softness and elegance of Roversi's gaze are evident. Focused on their task or subtly posing in front of the photographer's lens, they compose a kaleidoscopic portrait of India.
Published together with the full text of Pasolini, The Scent of India by Roversi immerses the reader in a mysterious and fantastic India.
