A modern silver pendant housing an ancient Greek bronze coin of Deiotaros, King of Galatia (63–59 BC) showing Zeus on the obverse and an eagle on a thunderbolt on the reverse, with a diameter of about 20.7 mm, in good condition with a dark brown patina, the coin can be removed from the pendant if desired, and it was acquired at an auction house in the Netherlands in 2025 with certificate of authenticity available on request.

Modern silver pendant with an ancient Greek bronze coin with the powerful presentation of the Eagle on thunderbolt and bust of Zeus. If preferred the coin can safely be removed from the pendant. A very beautiful coin with a very interesting history.

Reverse: Eagle, with head right and wings spread, standing left on thunderbolt; monogram to left.

Condition: good and very fine condition. Coin with smooth dark brown patina. Signs of wear consistent with age and use.

DEIOTAROS, King of Galatia in the 1st century BC, was a Celtic tetrarch and ally of Rome during the late Republic. A shrewd and ambitious ruler, he supported Pompey against Julius Caesar, but later secured a pardon from Caesar himself.
Renowned for his loyalty to Rome and political survival, Deiotaros transformed Galatia from a tribal confederation into a Hellenised client Kingdom. His story was famously recounted by Cicero in the Pro Rege Deiotaro, offering a vivid glimpse of diplomacy, shifting alliances, and Roman influence on the Celtic East.

The Kingdom of Galatia was established in central Anatolia (modern Turkey) around the 3rd century BC by Celtic tribes who had migrated from Europe. It became a Hellenistic client Kingdom, interacting with neighbouring powers like Pergamon, Cappadocia, and Rome.
Galatia maintained a Celtic cultural identity while adopting Hellenistic customs. By the 1st century BC, under kings such as Amyntas, it expanded its territory, but after his death in 25 BC, Galatia was incorporated into the Roman Empire as a province.
