Seller story

Martijn van Berkum is a visual artist, based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. The last years his interest has focused on architecture and sculpture. For van Berkum that fascination is all about the fun of experimenting with 3D structures, and about translating all the art and architecture he sees around him into a personal visual language. On the other hand, van Berkum also likes to study how the way we design our environment is an expression of the identity we want it to have. Architecture for him, isn't merely a matter of visual make-up of a functional structure, through the buildings we design and build we also express who we are. At the Willem de Kooning Academy, in Rotterdam, Martijn van Berkum received two BFA degrees at WdKA, in Fine Art (2001) and Art Education (2006). From 2009 until 2011 he studied at Valand Academy in Gothenburg, Sweden, at the masters programme C:ART, where he received a MFA, with a specialisation in digital media. Martijn van Berkum works as course coordinator at the Willem de Kooning Academy, in Rotterdam, and has exhibited his work internationally in museums and galleries.

    When I received the drawing I was blown away by it’s beauty. Spectacular and very rich in depth. There is so much to see. Martijn was very helpfull and gave me good advise about framing the picture.

    Een prachtig werk, waar ik nog uren naar ga kijken. Martijn is het persoonlijk langs komen brengen, altijd leuk om met de maker te kunnen spreken. Het werk was slim en veilig ingepakt. Top!
