Hanneke Naterop

Hanneke Naterop [1965] is a Dutch artist who lives in the The Hague area in The Netherlands. She is a fulltime artist and teaches art at Parkvilla Alphen aan de Rijn. She graduated at the academy for art and visual education in Tilburg 1990. Many artcollectors have since bought works of her and she exhibited in the  Netherlands, Belium, Spain and the United States in galleries like Kunstzaal van Heijningen, Anita Terbeek, Morren Galleries, Galerie Bonnard, Figure Ground Galery Pulchri Studio, ect. She also portrayed The Dutch Astronaout Andre Kuipers for the TV show Star Portrait. Naterop is a painter who reaches into her subjects for what lies beneath the surface. Even her commissioned portraits are never satisfied with mere likeness. Hanneke Naterop echo's the traditional technique of the past, with her feet and mind planted in the present."You can describe my work as figurative. I have always painted about subjects around me. About three years ago I asked myself what I would like to create as well. The first thing that came to mind were fairytale like stories with beautiful rich structures and colors that create harmony and richness and radiate pleasure. On that moment the colorful new work had started. The narrative is always a theme in my work, my most recent work  has an abstract layer of colorful patterns in acrylic paint On top of that I paint my stories or interiors and let  these blend into the color layer below. In the works I am looking for a mixture of serenity, mystery, richness in story, form language and texture."
