Tanaka Yoshikazu (1933) - Shidarezakura B ver. Blue

Shidarezakura B ver. Blue シダレザクラ B ver 青(しだれざくら B ver あお)|Tanaka Yoshikazu 田中喜一(たなか よしかず) “Shidarezakura B ver. Blue” is a highly atmospheric woodblock print by Tanaka Yoshikazu, created between 1990 and 2000, representing one of the artist’s most poetic interpretations of the weeping cherry tree. Tanaka Yoshikazu is known for his lifelong exploration of trees as living symbols of time, transformation, and spiritual presence. Rather than depicting nature descriptively, he distills its essence into rhythm, movement, and emotional resonance. His creative philosophy is deeply influenced by spiritual music, particularly the chorales of Johann Sebastian Bach and the string compositions of Antonio Vivaldi, which inform the structure and cadence of his visual language. This work captures a fully blossomed weeping cherry tree illuminated by moonlight. Rendered in refined blue tones against a deep black ground, the composition evokes a silent nocturnal landscape filled with serenity, tension, and quiet power. The cascading branches create a sense of gravity and stillness, drawing the viewer into a meditative state reminiscent of a private encounter with nature at night. The present work is an Artist’s Proof, reserved by the artist and produced in extremely limited numbers. Artist’s Proofs are particularly sought after by collectors for their close connection to the creative process and their scarcity on the market. This example is hand-signed by the artist in pencil, further enhancing its authenticity and desirability. --- Artist Profile 1933 Born in Kyoto Prefecture, Japan 1978 Began printmaking using copperplate and woodblock techniques 1981 Exhibited at an art exhibition in Australia 1983 Exhibited at an art exhibition in Spain From 1992 Held numerous solo exhibitions at department stores and galleries throughout Japan --- Accessories None --- Dimensions & Weight Total size approximately 40 × 63.5 × 0.1 cm Weight approximately 47 g --- Technique & Condition Medium: Paper Technique: Woodblock print Edition: Artist’s Proof Signature: Hand-signed in pencil Condition: Excellent --- Shipping Shipping via Japan Post EMS from Japan.
