1561 RARE FIRST EDITION OF BOTANY by Antoine Du Pinet (c. 1510-1584), Pietro Andrea Mattioli (1501-1578) and Dioscorides (c. 40–90 AD). The book contains approximately 640 illustrations of plants, flowers, fruits, and medicinal herbs, one for each page. Each plant is catalogued with its scientific name in Latin and its common name in German, Italian, French, Spanish, Greek and Arabic, along with its characteristics, provenance, properties, and medicinal applications. Many exotic plants from America and the Far East and depicted for the first time. At the end of the book, there is an index of the plants and their practical uses in daily life, and the dosage of the ingredients, this is one of the first plant encyclopedias with translations into multiple languages. Antoine Du Pinet was a French scholar who specialized in the translation and interpretation of classical authors of antiquity such as Pedanius Dioscorides (AD 40–90) and Pliny the Elder (AD 23-79). Also in the same year, 1561, the first French translation of Pietro Andrea Mattioli's work took place.
