Luba mask - Gatomba - Luba - R.D. Congo

Due to its size and medial crest, which extends from the nose through the center of the forehead to its end,it is a male mask. Luba art is impressive for the richness of its production; like the Kuba and the Tshokwe, this deeply artistic people surround themselves with beauty. The artistic production of the Luba is all calm and distinction; it is similar in this respect to the equally famous art of the Baulé of the Ivory Coast. Among the most common features, the most frequent is a certain fullness and roundness of form; the Luba style is an art of curves, plump surfaces, full flesh tones, and soft volumes.
