Belén - Madera, Vidrio - Mediterranean Coral

Non-serial artisanal production – Italy, early 2000s Created by Perna Laboratorio Orafo – Torre del Greco (Naples) Important handcrafted Nativity scene of high artistic and collectible value, entirely handmade in the early 2000s by Perna Laboratorio Orafo, a historic artisanal workshop based in Torre del Greco, internationally recognised as one of the most important centres for the traditional working of Mediterranean coral. This work belongs to a limited, non-serial artisanal production. Over the years, other Nativity scenes inspired by this model have been created, however each piece is entirely handmade and therefore never identical. Variations in composition, distribution of coral fragments, volumes and surface textures make every example distinct, resulting in a work that is effectively unique in its specific configuration. The composition features a complex sculptural structure, created through meticulous manual layering of authentic natural Mediterranean coral fragments, carefully selected for colour, texture and material consistency. The arched rocky setting, intentionally irregular and richly textured, is balanced by a classical architectural column, recalling the refined language of high-quality Neapolitan Nativity art. At the centre of the scene stands the figure of the Infant Jesus, finely modelled and hand-painted, serving as the symbolic and devotional focal point of the composition. The expressive posture and gentle proportions enhance the contemplative and emotional impact of the work. The entire Nativity is preserved under a transparent glass dome, ensuring both protection and elegant presentation. The turned wooden base, solid and well-proportioned, completes the piece and makes it suitable for refined interior display and serious private collections. Inside the dome is an identification card certifying the use of genuine Mediterranean coral, an important detail for informed collectors and connoisseurs of organic natural materials. Technical details Maker / Workshop: Perna Laboratorio Orafo Period: Early 2000s Origin: Italy – Torre del Greco (Naples) Production: Handcrafted, non-serial (each piece differs) Materials: Genuine natural Mediterranean coral Natural and mineral elements Glass (protective dome) Wood (base) Technique: Traditional handcraftsmanship Condition: Excellent, well preserved Dimensions (approx.) Height: 17 cm Width: 15 cm (Measurements are approximate and may show slight variations due to the handcrafted nature of the work.) Shipping Professional tracked international shipping, with reinforced, collector-grade packaging, specifically designed for fragile and high-value objects. Important information This is a non-serial artisanal work. Differences compared to other Nativity scenes produced by the same workshop are not defects, but a direct result of manual craftsmanship and the natural variability of Mediterranean coral. The piece is made using natural organic material, in compliance with the regulations in force at the time of production.
