Labelled Petrus Guarnerius - 4/4 - - Violín - Desconocido

Offering is a very beautiful full size antique master violin, labeled: Petrus Guarnerius filius Joseph Cremonensis fecit Venetiis Anno 1731. The violin presents a very rich golden-brown-reddish varnish. The instrument was professionally restored, ready to play with good ebony fittings, new master made bridge and old Savarez strings. Length of back is 355 mm, whole length 590 mm. The width of the upper bouts: 167 mm; middle bouts: 109 mm; lower bouts: 201 mm. The violin is in good condition, with small old repaired cracks on top under tailpiece, new bridge and new strings. The violin has an excellent high grained spruce of the top and two pieces back of narrow flamed maple with matched sides and grafted scroll. Bushed peg-holes. Many repaired cracks on top and sides, but no cracks on the back. The inlaid purfling is very shiny, nearly pitch black and made of wale bone. The f-holes are beautifully executed. High but soft arching. The sound is powerful, warm and deep, suitable for soloist. I have taken high quality pictures so hopefully the details of the violin can be shown. If you feel the need to have a closer shot of a particular angle, please feel free to ask, I will be more than happy to send you extra pictures. Shipping worldwide insured Violins and bows described as 'certified' or 'attributed' include images of their certificates and are therefore considered to have a higher degree of documented certainty regarding maker, origin, and age than instruments described only as 'labelled' (violins) or 'stamped' (bows), for which we provide no guarantee of any kind.
