- Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890) was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter and one of the most influential figures in Western art history. Although largely unrecognized during his lifetime, Van Gogh developed a highly expressive style characterized by bold colors, thick impasto brushwork, and emotional intensity. His work explores landscapes, still lifes, and portraits with remarkable psychological depth and energy.
Today, Van Gogh’s paintings rank among the most valuable artworks in the world, frequently achieving tens of millions of euros at major auctions. His limited body of work, combined with his legendary life story, makes his art exceptionally sought after by collectors and museums alike.
Irises (1889) was painted while Van Gogh was staying at the asylum in Saint-Rémy. The composition features vibrant blue irises set against a glowing yellow and green background, rendered with dynamic, swirling brushstrokes. The work reflects his fascination with nature and Japanese prints, and showcases his mastery of color contrast and movement. Irises is considered one of his most celebrated floral works and a defining example of his mature style.
Some artists of similar importance, Basquiat, Hockney, Lichtenstein, Sorolla, Banksy, Brainwash, Delaunay, Nara, Soulages, Lagasse, Ramos, Rothko, Lautrec, Klimt, Matisse, Hirst, Chagall, Koons, Haring, Indiana, Mondrian, Groening, Richter, Monroe, Kusama, Murakami, Coa, Hopper, Ripolles, Wesselmann, Magritte, Jenk, Orlinski, Wille, Rizzi, Manara, Thiebaud, Herrera, Laurent, Klein, Dior, Vuitton, Kaws, Cappiello, Kandinsky, Warhol, Buffa, Tura, Castle, Katz, Braque, among others.
