2005 Benjamin Romeo, 'Que Bonito Cacareaba - Rioja DOC - 1 Botella (0,75 L)

2005 Qué Bonito Cacareaba (How beautifully it crowed! ), is a wine that exudes elegance from every angle, offering everything a great wine should and can offer. The colour is beautiful, a perfect golden hue with subtle greyish reflections; it has the colour of what it is: a jewel. What does it smell like? Like Rioja, like delicacy, like character, like complexity, like seduction. It is one of those rare wines that compel you to close your eyes and breathe in deeply. You could easily imagine yourself in a meadow surrounded by white and yellow flowers and grass still damp with morning dew, or stepping into a small French bakery, with the smell of freshly melted butter and busy yeast. One wonders whether to bring the glass to one's lips, for fear of breaking the spell, of that prodigious nose not continuing in the mouth, but the apprehension disappears at the first contact. It seems to enter with a certain discretion, although it begins to grow almost instantly. Its oily texture quickly takes hold of the cheeks, making them its own and never letting go. It has the freshness of a fresh quince and the citrus sweetness of candied fruit. Abundant spicy notes emerge, warm like vanilla or cinnamon, but also dry and cold, reminiscent of white pepper, and even very subtly of cloves. The wood lies beneath an aniseed body, with hints of smoke and beeswax. It flows into the memory, leaving an aromatic trail of distinction and exquisiteness that lingers for minutes but will live on in the memory for a long time.
