About this work: Nature is a subject that brings many people to emotions and inspires them. As nature provides aesthetic harmony, simplicity and authenticity. Additionally, nature holds a symbolic meaning in tmy work. She has Surinamese, Indonesian, African and Dutch roots. Mariska is a visual artist who places the human figure at the center of her work, exploring its vulnerability and strength. Inspired by Baroque, fantasy, and cultural iconography, her imagery is both timeless and deeply personal. In her visual language she photographs with her own personal perspective, using sensuality, cultural archetypes, social themes, to merge it into still, narrative worlds.
