Angelo Chiappa (XIX) - Madonna and Child

Refined 19th century Italian copper engraving depicting the Madonna with the sleeping Christ Child in a Leonardesque Lombard composition. Signed in the plate: • “Luvino pin.” • “Ang. Chiappa dis. e inc.” The composition clearly follows the Lombard Leonardesque tradition and closely relates to Madonna types historically associated with Bernardino Luini (c. 1480–1532). The stylistic features strongly correspond to works traditionally attributed to Luini or his circle in the 19th century. The print bears an elegant aristocratic dedication: “Dedicato a S.E. la Sig.ra Contessa Wilhemina di Bubna” Referring to a member of the Bohemian noble family Bubna von Lititz, indicating a distinguished context rather than a purely commercial devotional print. Details • Technique: copper engraving (line and stipple work) • Period: circa 1820–1845 • Origin: Italy (likely Milan) • Visible plate mark • Image size: ± 23 × 29 cm • Frame size: ± 44 x 54 x 2,5 cm • Printed on 19th century paper Condition Good overall condition considering age. Light age-related toning and minor traces of previous mounting. No major tears or losses. Please examine photographs carefully. A well-executed 19th century Old Master reproduction print combining devotional subject, Lombard Renaissance tradition and aristocratic provenance. Will be sent well packed. Old Master print, Italian engraving, Leonardesque, Lombard school, 19th century print, Religious art, Copperplate engraving, Aristocratic provenance
