Descripción del vendedor
Set of 6 Antique Italian .800 Silver Oyster/Cocktail Forks – Figural Renaissance Handles, Marked "A B", 133g, 16cm
Beautiful set of 6 antique Italian .800 silver forks(likely oyster forks, cocktail forks, o small serving/pickle forks), dating to the late 19th/early 20th century (circa 1880–1930).
These elegant three-tine pieces are crafted in the classic Italian .800 silver standard (80% pure silver), showcasing exceptional hand-chased and repoussé decoration in a rich “Renaissance Revival / Baroque style”.
The handles feature lavish high-relief motifs with charming individual variations, highlighting handmade craftsmanship and strong collectible appeal:
- Cherubs / putti and angelic figures
- Grotesque masks, mythical faces, and expressive heads
- Scallop shells, acanthus leaves, floral scrolls, and vine-like twisting elements
- Heraldic cartouches, medallions, and possible armorial shields
- Fluted, foliate, and sculptural details for a striking three-dimensional effect
Hallmarks / Marks: Visible maker's mark “A B" (or "AB" / "A.B" — possibly stylized as seen in close-ups) on the handle/stem area and 13 in a circle and B above the circle. This is typical of pre-1934 Italian silver, where official assay marks were often optional; no numbered lozenge, fasces, province code, or star present, confirming the earlier dating. The .800 purity aligns with Italian standards of the period (though not always explicitly stamped on decorative flatware).
Condition: Very good antique condition overall — light surface wear, natural age patina, and minor scratches from use. Intact and well-preserved. The crisp chasing and soft patina add authentic charm and character.
Dimensions & Weight:
- Length: 16 cm each
- Width: approx. 2 cm (handle area)
- Thickness: approx. 1 cm (at thickest point)
- Total weight: 133 grams (solid silver content enhances value)
This rare, decorative set exemplifies peak Italian silver flatware craftsmanship, with exceptional figural artistry and visual impact. Perfect for collectors of European/Italian silver, Renaissance/Baroque Revival pieces, ornate cutlery, cherub/grotesque motifs, or as stylish serving utensils for oysters, seafood, appetizers, or desserts. A standout group with strong presence — ideal for display or collection!
Shipment: Will be packed with special care.
