Panel - Dinastía Qing (China Manchu) (1692-1911)

Antique chinese carved wood panel dating from the late Qing Dynasty or Republic period, used as an architectural element, possibly from a wedding bed or cabinet. The panel is made from a type of hardwood, possibly camphor or elm, and features deep, detailed openwork (toukong diao) relief carvings. It has a natural, aged patina, but traces of the original red lacquer and gold gilt accents may be visible, which were common finishes for such pieces. The carving depicts a figural scene with multiple characters, suggesting a narrative from Chinese folklore, history, or opera. The figures appear to be engaged in an outdoor scene, with a small pavilion or building on the right. Such scenes often convey auspicious meanings, such as wishes for fortune, longevity, or success, common in traditional chinese culture. The detailed craftsmanship, especially the high relief and openwork, is a hallmark of skilled chinese artisans. Size: 32 / 11 cm
