An Impressive Central Russian icon depicting Christ Pantokrator. Christ is depicted with an opened Gospel Book with the text that starts with " Prediztje" which means " Come ". See the Gospel of Matthew chapter 11, vers 28-30. " Come all to me who are weary and burdened and I will give you Rest".
This icon hails from an excellent Old Believers workshop and is based on 16th century examples. The face of the Savior has great highlights and he seems to be in deep meditation. The writing in Old Church Slavic in the book is very fine. The background of the icon is freed till the levkas layer. Good quality, classical, Central Russian icon. 31 x 27 cm. Painted circa 180
