Dirk de Bruycker nació en 1955 en Gante, Bélgica, y falleció en 2015 en Santa Fe, EEUU. Se formó en la City Academy of Fine Arts de Sint-Niklaas y en el St. Lucas Institute of Fine Arts de Gante, donde obtuvo el Master of Arts en 1977.

En 1979 se trasladó a Estados Unidos para estudiar en el Tamarind Institute de Albuquerque, siendo uno de los primeros artistas belgas en este prestigioso centro. Entre 2002 y 2008 dirigió también un estudio en Granada, Nicaragua, viajando con frecuencia entre Centroamérica y Estados Unidos.

De Bruycker realizó más de 45 exposiciones individuales en instituciones y galerías de EEUU y Europa (Santa Fe, San Diego, Denver, Nueva York, Boston, Los Ángeles, Scottsdale).
