Cuenco para té - Gres - Nezumi Shino Chawan

Item Description This elegant chawan (matcha tea bowl) is a fine example of Nezumi Shino (literally "mouse grey Shino"), one of the most refined and distinctive styles within the Mino ceramic tradition. The bowl is attributed to Gazan-gama, a respected pottery kiln based in Toki City, Gifu Prefecture — the heartland of Mino ware — and comes in its original signed wooden box (tomobako). The outer surface showcases a rich, iron-saturated clay body overlaid with a classic grey Shino glaze, characteristic of the Nezumi Shino technique. Layered over the misty grey ground are two distinct decorative registers: bold, freely drawn diagonal brushstroke lines in creamy white iron-slip that sweep dynamically across the upper body, and a rhythmic crosshatch pattern incised around the lower register. These contrasting motifs give the piece both spontaneity and structure — a hallmark of accomplished Mino craftsmanship. The interior is glazed in the same nuanced grey Shino, with natural pooling of the glaze creating subtle variation at the base. The unglazed foot ring (kodai) reveals the sandy, ochre-toned clay body typical of Mino stoneware, with visible iron spots and a natural kiln patina throughout. A small potter's seal is pressed into the foot area. The piece is accompanied by a signed wooden storage box inscribed Nezumi Shino Chawan — a clear indication of the work's lineage and authenticity as a named, signed artist piece. This chawan is equally suited for actual use in the tea ceremony (chado) or as a collector's display object, embodying the quiet, wabi aesthetic treasured in Japanese tea culture. Size Height: 9 cm Width: 13 cm Depth: 13 cm Weight 580 g Condition The bowl is in good used condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs; natural kiln effects including iron spots, glaze pooling, and surface pitting are inherent characteristics of the Nezumi Shino technique and not flaws. NOITICE: The lot will be carefully packaged and sent by Japan Post, DHL or FedEx depend on the situation. It takes about 3 weeks to receive normally. Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Sometimes Customes or delivery company in your country contact you for Customs clearance via phone or email. Please make sure that you could answer the phone. If you don't, the parcel will return to me and it cost more double shipping fee for reshipping. I appreciate your cooperation.
