Frans de Nocker (1884-1955) - Historic Dutch town

✦ FREE SHIPPING WITHIN THE EU ✦ RATED EXCELLENT Atmospheric oil on board townscape by Frans de Nocker, depicting a picturesque street lined with red-tiled roofs leading towards a square dominated by a church tower. Small figures and what appears to be a cart animate the scene and evoke the rhythm of everyday urban life. The artist employs a lively, loose and sketch-like brushwork, using broad strokes and subtle colour accents to capture light and atmosphere. This spontaneous painterly approach lends the work a charming, impressionistic character. The scene recalls historic Dutch town centres. Considering De Nocker’s working locations and preferred subjects, cities such as Leiden, Den Haag, or possibly Delft may have served as inspiration. Frans de Nocker (also known as François Pierre Emile de Nocker) was born in The Hague on 7 May 1884 and died in Leiden on 12 August 1955. He was the son of Alphons Emile Ernest Hubert de Nocker. Although largely self-taught, he received instruction from Cornelis (Kees) Koppenol, his father, and the Italian modernist Gino Severini. He also was a talented cellist. He was active as an artist in Den Haag, Paris and Leiden. In addition to painting, he was a skilled draughtsman and watercolourist who mainly depicted landscapes, still lifes, townscapes, interiors, and scenes of sport and leisure. De Nocker was a member of the Leids Kunstcentrum and is recorded in Scheen’s Lexicon Nederlandse Beeldende Kunstenaars This work is a fine example of De Nocker’s spontaneous and expressive painterly touch, in which his loose brushwork and vibrant handling of colour beautifully capture the atmosphere of a historic Dutch town. ⦿ Signed lower right: F de Nocker ⦿ Dimensions (approx.): 29,5 x 39,5 cm (artwork), 38 x 48 cm (incl. frame/total). ⦿ Condition: Exhibits an authentic patina of age (see pictures). ⦿ Please note: The frame is included as a complimentary gift and should be regarded as such. ⦿ Shipping: Fast dispatch ✓ Tracked ✓ Insured ✓ Eco-friendly ✓   – Dispatched from Germany, or local (free coffee:)) pick-up available.
