The icon "Christ Pantocrator" (from Greek: All-Powerful or Almighty) is one of the most important and widespread images in Orthodox Christianity. It represents Jesus Christ as the heavenly King, Judge and Ruler of the Universe. Christ is depicted with his right hand raised in a gesture of blessing. The fingers are often folded to form the Greek letters IC XC (abbreviation for Jesus Christ) In his left hand He holds the Holy Gospel, which symbolizes God's word, wisdom and the law by which the world will be judged. The halo around His head contains three Greek letters (Ο Ω Ν), meaning "The Existent One" or "I Am", which emphasizes His eternity and divine origin. The face is often depicted with a slight asymmetry - one eye looks stern (as a Judge), and the other - merciful (as a Savior), which reflects His human and divine essence. A beautiful icon!
