Collar vintage de heishi turquesa - Collar

This hand-crafted Turquoise Heishi Necklace is a classic example of Southwestern artistry, blending traditional materials with a timeless silhouette. Primary Stone: Turquoise heishi discs, featuring a vibrant sky-blue hue with subtle, natural matrix variations. Accent Beads: The necklace is punctuated by iridescent Mother of Pearl (MOP), deep black Onyx (or jet), and earthy reddish-brown Pipestone. Clasp: It features a vintage Brass-toned Barrel Clasp, a secure and traditional closure for this type of jewellery. Provenance & Style The design, specifically the "rainbow" combination of turquoise, shell, and black stone, is most closely associated with the Santo Domingo Pueblo (Kewa) and Navajo traditions of New Mexico. "Heishi" (the Keres word for "shell") refers to the labor-intensive process of hand-rolling and grinding individual discs into smooth, uniform strands. Based on the use of the barrel clasp and the specific combination of beads, this piece is likely a vintage item from the late 20th century (1970s–1980s). During this era, such multi-stone heishi designs were highly popular and remain a staple of Southwestern jewellery today. MEASUREMENTS Weight approximately 11 grams Chain measures approximately 40 centimetres Note: Many of my items are vintage and are therefore likely to show some age-related wear. This can include things such as: scratches, discolouration, repairs etc. Please be sure to look through each photograph carefully and read the description fully, to get an idea of condition. Import taxes are buyers responsibility!
