Walt Disney - 1 Original preliminary drawing - Pluto - Pluto's White Elephant (Unproduced Short) - 1948

Production Drawing - Pluto and Bobo the Elephant - Pluto's White Elephant (Walt Disney Studios, 1948) This original graphite production drawing comes from Pluto's White Elephant, a 1948 Walt Disney Studios short that was developed but never completed. Bobo the Elephant first appeared in Floyd Gottfredson's Mickey Mouse daily comic strip in a story arc running from July 30 to October 13, 1934. He then made his sole animated appearance in Mickey's Elephant (1936), directed by David Hand, where Mickey receives the baby elephant as a gift from the Rajah of Gahboon. Disney intended to make Bobo a recurring character and developed several projects to bring him back, including Spring Cleaning, but none were ever produced. Pluto's White Elephant was another attempt to reunite the unlikely duo. The drawing depicts a charming gag moment: Pluto marches proudly forward while little Bobo trails behind, holding onto his tail. Both characters are rendered in full figure with expressive, lively poses. Graphite on 12-field, 3-peghole animation paper (approximately 30.5 × 25.5 cm), numbered 48C. Condition: good, with age-related toning typical of vintage production artwork. Production drawings from unreleased Disney projects are exceptionally scarce, most pre-production material from abandoned shorts was dispersed or lost over the decades. A rare piece of Disney history.
