Tabla de cortar de madera etíope “Mektefiya” (Sin precio de reserva)

Ethiopian wooden cutting board “Mektefiya” Details Origin: Ethiopia Materials: Wood Dimensions: approx. D 41 cm; H 8 cm Period: First half of the 20th century Provenance: Collected in situ by the present owner in the early 1990s Description A fine and uncommon Ethiopian wooden cutting board, locally known as a mekt(e)fiya. Carved from a single heavy piece of wood, it combines functional strength with a remarkably refined sculptural presence. The broad circular form is structured around a raised central ridge, which clearly served as a chopping block and still shows traces of cutting. This example is especially attractive for the contrast between its massive construction and the sophistication of its carved decoration. As is often the case with Ethiopian domestic wooden objects such as cutting boards or injera platters, the decoration is carved on the outer face — the side that remains visible when the object is hung on a wall or stored upside down when not in use. The richly engraved geometric motifs, the deep old patina, and the honest wear from long use give the piece both ethnographic interest and strong decorative appeal. A rare and characterful old Ethiopian household object, with wonderful patina and striking presence. Condition Heavy wear, abrasions, and surface marks consistent with age and prolonged use. Minor losses and age-related irregularities. Fine old patina throughout. Please refer to the photographs. Included The board only. No stand included.
