Four Seasons Kachō-e (四季花鳥図) - Ikeda Hōdō (池田鳳堂) - Japón (Sin precio de reserva)

Title: Four Seasons Kachō-e (四季花鳥図) Artist: Ikeda Hōdō (池田鳳堂) Technique: Hand-painted Japanese painting Size: 103 × 34 cm (40.55 × 13.39 in) Material: Washi paper (和紙) Period: Late Taishō to Mid Shōwa Period (1920–1940s) This refined kachō-e work was painted by Ikeda Hōdō (池田鳳堂), a Japanese kachō-e artist active from the late Taishō to mid Shōwa era. Designed in a horizontal format, the composition unfolds from left to right, featuring iconic plants of the four seasons: Spring: Plum blossoms with textured branches and pale soft petals, a classic symbol of early spring. Summer: Peonies and lilies in full bloom, representing the vitality of early summer. Autumn: White chrysanthemums, expressing the quiet and elegant charm of autumn. Seasonal transition: Purple iris, presenting a gentle aesthetic between winter and spring. A small songbird is finely painted on the left side, bringing vivid vitality to the tranquil floral scene and creating a peaceful mood of changing seasons. Executed in the traditional Japanese painting style, blending fine brushwork and freehand strokes with mineral pigments and ink linework. Delicate outlines define the flowers with soft, subtle colouring; the bird’s feathers are naturally shaded and vividly realistic. The pale paper-silk background with ample neat negative space perfectly highlights the fresh and elegant charm of the main motifs. The left side bears the cursive signature “Hōdō” (鳳堂), together with a square red seal carved with “Ikeda Hōdō” (池田鳳堂), which authenticates the work. The piece retains traces of old mounting. Consistent with its age, the washi shows natural ageing, paper toning, foxing, creases and minor edge damage. This item is sold unframed. All framed pictures are for display only.
